My Massage
Here
are some answers to questions that you might have about my
"normal" relaxation and wellness massage routine. I put normal in
quotations because it seems like no two massages are ever exactly the same
and I use the terms relaxation and wellness massage to differentiate between
these and a more specific therapeutic massage, hot massage or deep tissue work,
etc.
The first thing about my massage, is that it is actually
your massage and I am very good at adapting my massage skills to your
personal preferences to make sure that you get the massage experience that
you want. So the more that you can tell me about what you want, the better I
can tailor my massage to your needs. That being said, I have a deep and
intuitive touch. I like to give a very thorough massage, and to take my time
giving it.
Time
I recommend at least 90 minutes for a really good, full body massage,
primarily because
it is just too hard to do the full body justice in only an hour. If you only
have an hour available for your massage, make sure that I know the areas
that you want the most attention paid to as well as the areas that you are
least concerned about so I can make sure to allocate my time accordingly.
Before the Massage
Before our first session, I will
want to do a pretty thorough intake with you to make sure that I completely
understand what you are looking for in terms of body work, that I am aware
of any issues that might affect the massage (pains, aches, conditions,
moods, etc.) and that you are comfortable with the specific type of massage
that you will be receiving.
Many of
my clients enjoy going through about a 10 minute partner or Thai stretching routine
with me prior to their massage. This helps me get an idea of how your body
is moving and the muscles that might need some extra attention and it also
lets me soften up some of the key muscles before getting you on the table,
which allows me to give you a much deeper and more thorough massage. Let me
know if you want to do this.
Oils, Lotions and Related
Before your first massage I will talk to you about your skin type, possible
allergies, preferences and similar issues to make sure that oil, cream or
lotion that I use on you is the best choice possible. For the most part,
everything that I use is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic (won't clog pores)
and natural. The product I use the most of is Elta Paraffin Massage Gel. It is an exceptional product that enhances the massage
experience for both the practitioner and client. I do have some specialty
products that I will suggest from time to time like a strong eucalyptus rub
or something with an analgesic or herbs in it, but I will always fully
describe the products to you to make sure they are right for your needs.
My
Style
I have a strong and intuitive touch. Most of the time this translates into a
very deep and satisfying massage. However, I also enjoy light touch/pressure
modalities and I am very comfortable with them as well (i.e pregnancy
massage, still-point work, etc.) I use my hands, forearms, elbows and even my
knees from time to time. Unless there are things that need to special
attention, I usually spend a lot of time on the back, shoulders, neck and glutes. If you like stomach work (which is really great for you), let me
know. I also study several different massage modalities, so make sure and ask
me if you are looking for something specific or unique.
I do have a signature massage style that
I call Hot or Heated Massage that is very unique and probably unlike any
massage you have ever had. You can learn more about that by
